Successful Interview Tips
- Take notes when your recruiter is supplying prep information about the company prior to the interview.
- Make sure you have proper directions to the location and the name of the person that will be interviewing you.
- BE ON TIME, but dont be more than 10 minutes early.
- OFFER A FIRM HANDSHAKE.
- Wait until a seat is offered before sitting down.
- Maintain good posture, lean slightly forward in your chair.
- MAINTAIN EYE CONTACT.
- NO gum chewing or smoking (even if the interviewer is smoking).
- Dont interrupt the interviewer when he/she is speaking.
- Have polished conservative appearance. Practice good hygiene and grooming.
- If you carry anything into the meeting (i.e. briefcase or purse), place it on the floor by your chair.
- Bring a clean, professional copy of your resume and references.
- Answer all questions in a positive manner. NEVER be negative in an interview!
- Rehearse a presentation (30 seconds to a minute) about yourself: including a brief synopsis about you, your prior jobs (and how they relate to the job for which you are interviewing), and your technical qualifications.
- USE ACTION WORDS TO DESCRIBE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS. Such as: I planned, created, developed, initiated, managed, etc.
- Always be prepared to ask at least 3 good questions. You are often judged on the quality of your questions as well as the quality of your answers.
- Letting a company know that you are a TEAM PLAYER and work well with others is very important.
- BE SURE TO CLOSE THE INTERVIEW with something like this: I am extremely excited about this opportunity. What is the next step in the interviewing process?
- MOST IMPORTANT - BE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY.
- Enjoy yourself and DONT FORGET TO SMILE!
